Description
Main Function: Responsible for translating clinical information from medical records into diagnosis and/or procedure codes (ICD-9/10, CPT) that are used for data collection and retrieval, quality improvement studies and reimbursement for Inpatient and/or
Outpatient accounts.

Required Job Specific Competencies: Demonstrates skill in accurately assigning appropriate ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT and HCPCS codes to designated medical records in accordance with coding guidelines and policies for up to three facilities. Exhibits ability
to accurately enter medical record information into Abstracting software/encoder and health system information system. Determines accurate DRG and/or APC assignment for designated inpatient/outpatient records as applicable. Demonstrates the ability to work
independently and exhibits flexibility in decision making and prioritizing assignments. Demonstrates the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with providers, associates and other departments. Actively guards the confidentiality
of sensitive information including but not limited to the patients, staff and the health system. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide compliant, accurate, and timely coded & abstracted information.



Requirements
Qualifications:

o Required: Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM/PCS, and CPT. Must remain current on coding guidelines and maintain any credentials.

o Preferred: A.A.S. in Health Information Technology or B.S. in Health Information Administration or equivalent education and experience. Successful completion of AHIMA accreditation examination for RHIA , RHIT or CCS Minimum of two years coding experience
in an acute care facility
